Louis Vuitton’s League of Legends-themed apparel collection arrived today. And, all we can say is that you’ve really got to love Riot Games’ MOBA to buy any of the items LV is flogging.
It’s not just the price that’s prohibitive. Louis Vuitton epitomizes the luxury fashion brand market, and expensive is just the tip of the iceberg. The design and appearance of the items are more likely to pose as an obstacle, though.
The partnership was announced back in September of this year. LV jumped in to design the League of Legends World Championship trophy case with in-game items and more real-world goods promised for the future.
A prestige in-game skin for League of Legends’ latest champion Qiyana surfaced in October, courtesy of Louis Vuitton’s Artistic Director of Women’s Collections Nicolas Ghesquière. Now that very skin forms the basis for the freshly dropped LVxLoL Collection.
The collection features no fewer than 30 unique pieces of apparel, ranging from bags to t-shirts, by way of shawls, sneakers, and even a bumbag. Prices range from near enough $4,500 for a long-hooded parka to a monogram bandeau for just shy of $200.
Taste will always be subjective, but a quick look at the collection and adjectives such as garish and gaudy spring to mind.
Many of the items feature designs pulled from the in-game skin, notably a kind of white-blue camo monstrosity, alongside a healthy smattering of LV’s signature gold on brown fleur-de-lis design.
Take, for example, this two-piece tracksuit look.
Or these sneakers.
The worst offender has got to be this key ring, though. Made with monogram canvas and calf leather, it can be yours for $500 or so.
