  • Microsoft has filed a trademark for what appears to be a new Xbox Series X logo.
  • The logo is simple and to the point, if a little drab.
  • Microsoft has yet to confirm that this is indeed the logo for the next-gen console.

While the next-gen consoles certainly promise a substantial leap when it comes to hardware, we can’t say the same for the logos. Fans have unearthed what appears to be a new logo for the Xbox Series X in an official trademark application  filed as recently as last Thursday, Apr. 16, by the Microsoft Corporation.

Xbox Series X Logo Surfaces Online

As is so often the case, Xbox buffs on the Xbox Series X Subreddit were the first to come across the logo . The trademark filing lists a dizzying array of products: interactive video game devices, jewelry, calendars, purses, cocktail glasses, and even yo-yos. And, that’s just scratching the service. The filing covers all bases for all-manner of Series X-themed hardware and paraphernalia.

Keeping to the established Xbox branding, a sizeable styled ‘X’ accompanies a vertically slanted ‘Series’ – presumably as a nod to the console’s tower-like design.

Little else stands out, nor does the logo feature any eye-catching flourishes. It’s simple and to the point. Functional, and possibly a little drab, is a good way to describe it.

An Unruly Name

Then again, the Series X name is pretty unruly, and finding a suitable logo is no small feat. Unlike the PlayStation 5, which handily shortens to PS5, the Xbox Series X is harder to tame. The Series X abbreviation is about as good as it gets.

And, more interestingly, the arrangement of the logo allows for Microsoft to easily swap out the X for say an S, further fueling speculation that Xbox will next month unveil the more affordable and less powerful young brother to the Series X, code-named Lockhart.

It’s worth noting that we’ve heard nothing official from Microsoft about the new logo. It may be an alternative that ends up going unused or even an old design that Xbox is trademarking merely to cover its back.
