  • Blizzard published a Warcraft III: Reforged patch earlier today.
  • The patch brings 20 fixes and changes.
  • Not all players are happy with the contents of the patch.

Earlier this week, Blizzard promised a patch for Warcraft III: Reforged after weathering a barrage of criticism at launch. It’s here.

Blizzard published notes on their official forums  recapping everything included in the 2.20 GB patch. Here they are in full.

Warcraft III: Reforged Patch Notes

Here’s a selection of the more significant changes;

– Players should no longer be met with a “defeat” screen after loading into a mission.
– The animations, triggers, and cameras for some cutscenes have been tweaked.
– Disconnecting or logging out will no longer change the save file folder.
– Fixed a number of issues that would block progression or not give credit for completing missions.
– Multiboards should no longer crash custom games.
– Joining lobbies for the same map no longer creates duplicate versions of the map.
Gameplay
– The rendering of Classic mode has been updated.
– Adjusted animations and portraits for multiple units and buildings.
– All menus are now distinct between Classic and Reforged graphic settings.

Download Issues & More Criticism

While it does bring 20 changes and bug fixes (none of them major), some players weren’t initially able to update their games.

When trying to apply the patch, some players weren’t able to download it. The Battle.net launcher reportedly prompted users to update Warcraft III: Reforged only for the download button not to work. Blizzard has now fixed the issue.

A large swath of the player base responded with displeasure at the contents of the patch. Many describe the changes as a lackluster attempt to fix a game perceived as riddled with bugs and missing features. A quick visit to the patch notes thread sees Blizzard pummeled with yet more complaints from Warcraft III: Reforged players.

The patch appears to have affected campaign save files, forcing some to restart from scratch.

The response to the Warcraft III: Reforged patch isn’t all negative, though. Others are reporting that the patch has resolved a host of performance issues and many welcome Blizzard taking an incremental approach to fixing the issues.
