PlayStation seems intent on starting 2020 in style. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Goat Simulator are January’s duo of PS Plus free games.
Although we’ve yet to receive the customary PlayStation Blog post about the free games, the news surfaced via a trailer on the German PlayStation YouTube channel , which has since been made private. It appears the channel let the cat out of the bag ahead of schedule.
2019’s PS Plus offering was nothing short of stellar with games like The Last of Us Remastered, Nioh, Titanfall 2, and The Surge. Sony is looking to continue that streak into 2020.
January’s tandem of games is an attractive proposition to start the year. They should please a wide range of players with the Indiana Jones-style adventures of Nathan Drake and the delightfully absurd joy of gallivanting around as a mischievous farmyard animal.
Goat Simulator feels somewhat like PS Plus filler. But, as a substitute for say an AAA smash hit, there are far worse games.
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection sees the original PlayStation 3 trilogy of Uncharted games remastered by the maestros at Bluepoint Games for the PlayStation 4.
Bluepoint is behind the phenomenal Shadow of the Colossus remaster and is currently working on an unannounced project teased via some cryptic festive tweets.
The single-player campaigns for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception are packaged into the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, so we’re talking dozens of hours of game time.
Goat Simulator is basically what the title implies. The player takes on the role of the titular goat, exploring and performing acrobatic feats using environmental props to earn points. Think Tony Hawk Pro Skater but with a goat.
Lighthearted, the open-ended style means the game is conducive to short bursts of fun roaming around seeing what oddities Coffee Stain Studios’ rag doll physics can conjure up.
