  • Ubisoft has revealed an exclusive Assassin’s Creed Valhalla pre-order bonus mission.
  • The mission will gravitate around the old English epic poem, Beowulf.
  • Ubisoft is already pay-walling content before we’ve even seen any gameplay

Following last week’s supposed Assassin’s Creed Valhalla gameplay trailer, Ubisoft has revealed the pre-order bonuses headed to players that fork out cash early.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Bonus Mission

Among these is a bonus mission, the details of which Ubisoft presumably intended to keep a secret until the game launches later this year.

The cat is already out of the bag, though, courtesy of what appears to be an accidental slip-up on the German version of the Ubisoft store . There’s no mention of mission particulars on other country listings, which suggests this is a blunder.

The pre-order listing hints at a bonus mission dubbed The Legend of Beowulf that will be exclusive to the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Season Pass as part of either the Gold, Ultimate, or Collector’s Editions. The description reads:

Includes the story mission: The Legend of Beowulf. Discover the cruel truth behind the legend.

The title suggests players will rub shoulders with the hero from the epic old English poem  of the same name as he battle monsters and dragons.

The news should please those who enjoyed the mythology interwoven into the open-worlds of the last two Assassin’s Creed games. Knowing Ubisoft’s penchant for attributing historical events of note as well as myths to its protagonist, we can’t discount Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s hero, Eivor, emerging as the titular Beowulf.

Paywall Content Before Gameplay

While tempting players to buy the Season Pass with an exclusive mission isn’t new by any stretch of the imagination, it’s more of the same from a developer that has a history of obscuring content behind a paywall.

More often than not that content adds considerably to the gameplay experience as we saw with the rather impressive Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s Jack The Ripper DLC .

Aside from forking out an odd $60 for the base game, those that want to experience The Legend of Beowulf need to either throw in an extra $50 for the Gold edition or wait until Ubisoft sells the Season Pass as a standalone digital add-on.

And, most egregious of all is the fact that Ubisoft is already pay-walling content before we’ve even seen any gameplay.
