Taylor Swift and Katy Perry have had a tense history.
The two singers engaged in a muted cold war against each other over several years. The reason? A beef about backup dancers.
Both singers made cryptic songs about each other. Taylor Swift even released her entire music catalog on Spotify on the same day Katy Perry released an album.
Their feud officially ended in 2019, when Perry appeared in a music video with Taylor Swift.
But since their makeup, the singers have gone down different paths. The disparity was on full display this week, as the two made wildly different political choices.
Taylor Swift had one of the biggest tweets of 2020 when she came out loudly in opposition to Donald Trump and white supremacism.
The “Folklore” singer was back at it again on Saturday.
First, she slammed Trump for his pandemic response, calling his leadership “ineffective.”
Then she laid into the president about his growing scandal surrounding the U.S. Postal Service. She said that Trump is putting “millions of Americans’ lives at risk” for a power-grab.
In one short afternoon, Taylor Swift used her massive following to call out the president and raise awareness around Trump’s shady handling of the USPS.
The same cannot be said about her counterpart.
While Taylor Swift is trying to get a monster out of power, Katy Perry is trying to keep one around.
Despite a massive outcry from staff, guests, and other stars, Katy Perry still seems to think Ellen DeGeneres is a good person.
She clearly hasn’t stopped to consider that maybe Ellen treated her better because she’s incredibly famous. That type of behavior is typical of a Hollywood narcissist; they’ll always treat people nicely if they can help them.
And yet, Katy Perry is telling The Los Angeles Times that Ellen DeGeneres is a great person.
It’s a confusing stance, but this isn’t the first time Katy Perry has been an enigma. Even back when she was quarreling with Taylor Swift, Perry was sending mixed messages.
Check out this batty quote where she touts her ability to clap back before saying that women need to stick together:
Now, there is the law of cause and effect. You do something, there’s going to be a reaction, and trust me daddy, there’s going to be a reaction. It’s all about karma, right? I think personally that women together — not divided, and none of this petty bullsh– — women together will heal the world.
She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.
It’s also strange time back Ellen, considering Perry is battling sexual harassment allegations.
At a time when the world is doing its best to “drain the swamp,” Katy Perry is trying to fill it back up with muddy water. It should come as no surprise, then, that even though these two have made up, Taylor Swift has emerged as the clear winner.
