A remake of the cult classic Super Metroid is a no-brainer, particularly for the Nintendo Switch. | Source: Nintendo
Super Metroid may be getting the remake treatment if one leaker on Twitter is to be believed.
Game leaker LeakyPandy says that Nintendo is planning to release two Metroid games over the next two fiscal years. According to the leaker, one of these is going to be a Super Metroid remake.
The leaker claims that the remake of Super Metroid is going to be in the same vein as Metroid: Samus Returns . This was a 3DS game that came out in 2017 and is a remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus for the Game Boy in 1991.
LeakyPandy doesn’t go into great detail about the Super Metroid remake. What they do say is that the game “mimics Samus Returns in style and scope.”
The other Metroid game that the leaker says is coming out is a re-release of the Metroid Prime Trilogy. That makes sense as Nintendo currently has Retro Studios working on a sequel to it with Metroid Prime 4 .
There’s still a lot unknown about these releases. First of all, are they both coming to the Nintendo Switch? It makes sense that the Metroid Prime Trilogy will, but what about the new take on Super Metroid?
Another thing that’s still up in the air is what order the games will come out in. Will gamers get the new version of Super Metroid first, or the Metroid Prime Trilogy collection?
What is interesting to note about this rumor is that it makes no mention of Metroid Prime 4. That seems to suggest that Nintendo doesn’t have any plans to release the game within the next two fiscal years.
Metroid Prime 4 not coming out for a minimum of two more years is a bummer, but at least gamers have two other Metroid games to look forward to!
