  • A TV ad for Sony’s PS5 console surfaces on the official PlayStation YouTube channel before being swiftly removed.
  • It flaunts a ‘world of immersion’ with a focus on the console’s DualSense controller and 3D Audio features.
  • It may be a sign that Sony plans to ramp up its PS5 promotion with a major announcement – potentially a price and release date – before long.

Sony is seemingly on the cusp of ratcheting up its PS5 promotion after a new TV ad for the console found its way online .

The ad first appeared on the official Hungarian PlayStation channel on YouTube before being swiftly removed, but not before an enterprising fan stashed away the footage for posterity and the world to view at their convenience. You can watch it below. [Update: Sony has published the ad on its official PlayStation channel.]

Sticking to Sony’s tradition of stylish, big-budget live-action spots, the ad flaunts the upcoming PS5’s immersive qualities with a focus on 3D Audio and the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

There’s no gameplay or mention of price or release date, and it’s very much about selling that somewhat oblique next-gen vision Sony has cultivated to date. A British-accented voice over narrates:

“Welcome to a world where you can feel more, and see with sound, and feel force at your fingertips. Welcome to a new world of immersion.”

While a TV ad makes sense in a temporally – we’re roughly three months away from launch, so it makes sense for Sony to start plugging its latest flagship product – the quick takedown suggests someone over at PlayStation Hungary jumped the gun on what could be a more or less imminent announcement.

The fact Sony has a TV ad ready and waiting for broadcast may be the best hint yet that it has something brewing.

As for what that announcement could be, ask would-be owners, and you’ll be slammed with a chorus of voices clamoring for a price point, pre-orders, and a firm release date beyond the frustratingly vague Holiday 2020 peddled so far.

Sony has to announce something for fans to sink their teeth into soon. The ad suggests it really won’t be all that long a wait.
