Sony’s been on somewhat of a streak in recent months, choosing to offer PlayStation Plus subscribers a surprisingly decent array of titles. September’s batch continues on that path with the inclusion of Batman: Arkham Knight and Darksiders III.
Despite releasing over four-years ago, action-adventure Batman: Arkham Knight stands firmly as one of the better titles to grace the early days of the PlayStation 4.
A convincing portrayal of our masked crime-fighting superhero by voice actor Kevin Conroy and a beautifully detailed open-world carry compelling combat and puzzles to weave a grand-scale narrative staggered by shrewdly intimate moments. Word of advice: try to ignore the bat mobile’s wonky mechanics – one of the game’s few glaring blemishes.
If you’ve yet to jump in, it’s well worth sinking some time into Batman: Arkham Knight, and a PlayStation Plus subscription is the ideal excuse to do just that.
Dark fantasy hack-and-slash adventure Darksiders III doesn’t quite carry the clout of its fellow PlayStation Plus game, but its approachable combat and luscious interpretation of post-apocalyptic earth are enough to make it a suitably welcome chaser.
You play as the sister of two of the four horsemen of the apocalypse who is on a quest to defeat the embodiment of the seven deadly sins. It’s all very biblical but translates surprisingly well into fast-paced combat, exploration, platforming, and contextual puzzle solving.
Darksiders III on PlayStation is paradoxically dark and cartoon-like at the same time. There’s a lot of fun to be had in the 20-odd hours of gameplay on offer.
Both titles will be available to download from Sept. 3 until Sept. 30 from the PlayStation Store. As always, a live subscription to PlayStation Plus is required. If you’ve yet to make the most of August’s spread of Sniper Elite 4 and WipEout Omega Collection, then make sure to grab these before Sept. 3.
