Sony is reportedly planning to unveil a sequel to 2018’s acclaimed PS4 exclusive God of War next month.
According to tech YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead , who points to a reputable source, Sony is currently holding out on possibly one of the biggest announcements of this E3-less summer until rival Xbox has laid bare its slate of next-gen titles.
This is a bombshell, I believe, is a new God of War. The sequel will be shown off supposedly in under a month. This is a well-guarded secret. It’s supposedly going to have jaw-dropping graphics that will approach photo-realism. They want to showcase this as ‘see PlayStation brings you next-gen graphics.’ It’s coming Fall 2021.
Rumors suggest Sony is planning another PS5 event, expected under the State of Play format, in August. Insider speculation currently points to Thursday, Aug. 6, as a possible date for the showcase.
Alongside God of War, Moore’s Law Is Dead revealed Sony also has another title to announce, specifically a launch exclusive. Moore’s Law describes it as:
…a revival of a mainstay of PlayStation, one that used to be a bigger tentpole franchise, and Mark Cerny is working on it.
Moore’s Law was unable to provide further details or risk outing his source by revealing too much.
Naturally, it’s best to approach all this with a good dose of skepticism, but rumors of Santa Monica Studio working on a God of War sequel have circulated for some time now. For many, a new God of War title was more a question of when than if.
Additionally, Sony confirmed it had more to show after June’s ‘Future of Gaming’ PS5 event. God of War would be an ideal showcase-carrying announcement to bolster Sony’s already impressive slate of PS5 exclusives.
