Key Takeaways
In another ringing endorsement for Republican candidate Donald Trump, Elon Musk said the former US president must win if the country wants to “preserve freedom.”
The tech billionaire has been a megaphone of support for Trump recently while publicly denouncing Vice President Kamala Harris. However, recent polls show that the Democratic nominee could be closing the gap to victory.
In response to a Tweet praising Musk as “one of the best in the world at synthesizing complex information and seeing a path forwards,” the tech billionaire shared one of his most dramatic endorsements for Trump to date.
“I have never been materially active in politics before, but this time I think civilization as we know it is on the line,” Musk wrote on X.
“If we want to preserve freedom and a meritocracy in America, then Trump must win,” he stated.
On Wednesday 4. Sept, a swing state Telegraph poll projected for the first time that Kamala Harris was on track to win the election.
The poll comes after weeks of positive progress against Donald Trump, putting Harris in the lead to win the crucial states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
According to a Redfield & Wilton Strategies poll done in seven swing states for The Telegraph, Harris will gain 270 electoral college delegates from the three key states, the amount needed to win the presidential election.
Support for Trump has also decreased in North Carolina, a state he won in 2020. However, Trump continues to lead Harris by one point.
Despite Kamala Harris’s success in the polls , uncertainty remains around polling errors. For example, in 2016 and 2020, Trump outperformed the polls to win on election night.
The polling errors were widely believed to be due to voter secrecy, last-minute decisions from voters, and an overall underestimation of Trump’s influence on the country.
After the attempted assassination of Trump on July 13, Musk took to X to endorse the former President.
“I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery. Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt,” the Tesla CEO posted on X alongside a video of Trump raising his fist to the crowd .
Musk has since been active in public support for the former President – going as far as offering himself up as a staff member, and demonstrating interest in participating in a “government efficiency commission“ that would help cut unneeded spending.
In an interview on X between the two men, the Tesla CEO suggested that the government should create an “efficiency commission” to cut unnecessary government spending. Musk claimed he would “be happy to help out” on such a commission.
Musk also previously posted an AI-generated image of himself behind a government lectern sporting “Department of Government Efficiency.“
