Netflix’s CEO is excited about the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry deal.
In an interview, Reed Hastings confirmed that he was over the moon about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s upcoming deal with the streaming giant.
So if this guy is happy about it, what’s everyone else’s problem? (We know, we know.)
On an exclusive interview with CNBC, Reed Hastings couldn’t stop kvelling about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
It’s gonna be epic entertainment—so excited about that deal. They’re smart—they were shopping it around across all of the major companies, and I think we really put together the best complete package, and we’re going to do a wide range of entertainment with them. I think it’ll be some of the most exciting, most viewed content next year.
You can check out his full interview below. And, Markle haters, be warned: he sings the praises of her a lot.
In a joint statement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle confirmed that while Markle, in particular, wouldn’t be returning to acting, they would be working closely with the streaming giant to “create content that informs, but also gives hope.”
Seems pretty harmless to me.
Contrary to the belief that Netflix is desperate for attention from Prince Harry (who has literally had not one Hollywood credit to his name prior to this) and the British royal family, it’s actually Meghan Markle who seems to have helped close this deal.
They were trying to close a deal with at least three other platforms — including Disney, Apple, and NBC Universal, the latter of which had an extant relationship with Markle thanks to her work on “Suits” — before closing the Netflix deal.
Anyone who’s worked in Hollywood can tell you that this is far from a bad deal. In fact, it’s a good sign when someone is in such high demand that they can command several meetings with just one phone call.
And no, Markle detractors, it’s not because they’re dying to get their hands on the minor royal that had no prior Hollywood experience.
So, if Netflix is happy about the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry deal, why shouldn’t you be?
