The mother of murdered UPS worker Frank Ordoñez is looking for answers. Ordoñez was the victim of a carjacking in Miramar, Fla. after the UPS truck he was driving was taken over by a pair of alleged armed robbers. According to reports, Ordoñez wasn’t the only one killed , as another innocent civilian was also lost their life in gunfire that erupted between the suspects and the authorities during rush hour traffic.

In the midst of her grief, Ordoñez’s mother, Mrs. Luz Apolinario, in a Noticias Telemundo exclusive questioned why the situation escalated so quickly, ultimately leading to the death of her son. She told Telemundo :

My son was a good boy, a family man. He was hardworking. He lived for his daughters. How could they kill him? Why couldn’t they give him a chance? He crouched down so he could leave and they started shooting. They killed my son. I came to this country for a better life, not so they could kill my son. He had so many hopes.

Ordoñez was reportedly a 27-year-old father of two who had his whole life ahead of him. His mother said he was planning to buy a home for his daughters within a year. The chain of events began at Regent Jewelers, where the suspects were allegedly robbing the store, in response to which the a silent alarm was triggered. Next, after a high-speed chase on the highway, the shooting unfolded in the middle of a busy road near a stoplight, leaving drivers scrambling to avoid the gunshots and Ordoñez dead. Apolinario continued:

They didn’t give him a chance. He crouched down to get out and they started shooting. Why couldn’t they think of something else? People are so smart in this country. How could they not think before they started shooting? They killed him! They didn’t give him a chance! They didn’t give him a chance. I’ve watched those videos over and over and over again. They didn’t give him a chance. Now those girls… He had so many hopes for his daughters. So many hopes.

The gunshots were reportedly being fired at the truck from more than a dozen police officers. It remains unclear where the bullets that killed Ordoñez originated from, as it’s still early in the investigation. Ordoñez was covering a shift for one of his coworkers  when he was killed. A GoFundMe page  has been set up for the family.
