As shocking as it sounds, the next video game adaptation might be based on Kingdom Hearts. According to ‘We Got This Covered,’ Disney is currently in early production on an adaption of the famous game series.
The new show will feature Sora, Donald, and Goofy, presumably going on their heart-centric adventure. It will be exclusive to Disney+.
But we don’t know if the show is going to be live-action or animated—hopefully the latter.
Can you imagine this as a TV show?
While the source is anonymous, WGTC has leaked things from the same source in the past. Both the live-action Robin Hood remake and She-Hulk adaptations turned out to be true .
Let’s hope and pray that this turns out to be an animated project. Can you imagine the horror of a realistically textured and proportioned Goofy or Donald?
Kingdom Hearts isn’t suited to live-action storytelling. It would be bad enough to hear overblown dialogue about hearts and friends in cartoon form. It would be horrific coming from a human being or a CG monstrosity.
Video game adaptations are usually live-action. Mainstream animated movies are usually relegated to family or kids’ movies, as adult animated films tend to flop.
While Kingdom Hearts is relatively family-friendly, it is not for kids. You practically need a Ph.D. to understand the convoluted narrative properly.
Let’s just hope someone at Disney realizes this. They may not even use the plot of the games. Let’s face it, converting 12-ish games worth of intricate lore is already a monumental task. Making it into an easily-digestible family series could produce absolute insanity.
