The results are in!

Josh Wise, driver of the Dogecar, won the Sprint Fan Vote. The results were announced following the Sprint Showdown tonight. The win, as expected, has brought a ton of excitement to the Dogecoin community on reddit. Fans have been encouraging each other to vote, and the majority of posts on the front page of /r/dogecoin on reddit this past week have been related to the competition. The Dogecoin community will be celebrating this victory for weeks on end. And the truth is, they have a ton to celebrate. Not only did they raise enough money to sponsor a NASCAR driver, but they’ve raised $25,000 worth of Dogecoin to send the Jamaican bobsled team to the Sochi Olympics, over $20,000 worth to build two water taps for Kenyan communities, and over $6,500 worth to pay back stolen funds to fellow Dogecoin users following the hacking of a popular online wallet.

Perfect time for excitement

[dropcap size=”small”]T[/dropcap]his fantastic news came just in time. Just a few days ago, the popular online wallet “Doge Vaultwas hacked into. The culprits stole 280,000,000 (280 million) Dogecoins. 120,000,000 (120 million) Dogecoins were recovered by Doge Vault. Dogecoin has maintained its momentum over the past months and has surpassed most peoples’ expectations in terms of longevity. Once again, the Dogecoin community has shown their fortitude and achieved yet another victory.

Wise also came in 18th place out of 23 at the Sprint Showdown tonight at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Clint Bowyer and AJ Allmendinger, first and second place respectively, also made it into the All-Star race, due to their top positions. Casey Mears came in third.

What it means

Winning the contest gives Wise a ticket to the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on Saturday, May 17 (tomorrow), also at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Wise fans and fellow NASCAR driver Danica Patrick fans went head-to-head on Twitter. Many Patrick fans accused Wise’s fans of using illegitimate voting methods to quickly gain votes. Patrick won the competition last year with nearly 500,000 (five hundred thousand) votes, and Wise fans didn’t have an easy time winning today.

Moving forward

Wise and members of the Dogecoin community on reddit are looking to continue the sponsorship. Wise & crew have recently announced that he is selling t-shirt versions of the suits his team wore at the pitstop. The shirts can be bought in either USD or Dogecoin. If he sells his goal of 5,000 shirts in 10 days, he’ll be racing in the Dogecar again. If he sells 10,000, he’ll do two races!
