When I arrived home from work today, I found my official Josh Wise Dogecoin t-shirt in the mail. Needless to say, I was ecstatic, and my wife was a bit embarrassed as I giddily ran from the mailbox to our house so that I could try it on.
[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]s you may remember, Josh Wise designed these shirts as part of a promotion to raise money to fund another race for the Dogecar. The Dogecoin community raised enough DOGE to sponsor Wise for the May 4 NASCAR race at Talladega, and Wise drove the Dogecar yet again in the All-Star race in May. Both parties enjoyed the partnership so much that they decided to join forces yet again, and they sold 5,805 shirts, enough to pay for Dogecoin sponsorship for the October 19 Talladega race.
The shirts are replicas of the uniforms that Wise’s pit crew wear during races when Wise drives the Dogecar. As you can see from the pictures, the front of the shirt features the official Dogecoin: digital currency logo and a #dogecar symbol. The shirt also features a small Reddit logo, along with the /r/dogecoin branding to pay homage to the community that made the Dogecar possible.
The rear of the Josh Wise Dogecoin shirt features the #98, as well as a rocket ship blasting off with the caption: “to the moon.” In addition, the shirt links to the Twitter pages of Josh Wise and Phil Parsons Racing.
If you are one of the many fans who missed out on the chance to buy an official Josh Wise Dogecoin shirt, there are a couple other ways you can obtain Dogecar merchandise. If you want to support Josh Wise, you should consider purchasing an official Dogecoin trucker hat from the Phil Parsons Racing store. You had better hurry, though, because they are selling out fast. According to Josh Wise, the team sold half of the hats in the first 3 hours they were available.
Diecast Hunters is also selling official 1:24 and 1:64 scale replicas of the Dogecar. The online store Yiptee sells unofficial Dogecar t-shirts. They aren’t as detailed as the official Josh Wise Dogecoin shirts, but they look similar.
As CCN.com reported, Josh Wise recently announced that he would drive the Dogecar twice more in 2014. The first of those races–the October 19 race at Talladega–was funded through t-shirt sales. However, Josh Wise surprised the Dogecoin community by announcing that he would drive the Dogecar yet again during the June 22 race at Sonoma, stating that he wanted to thank the community for their support and pay forward the goodwill they showed to him.
The Josh Wise Dogecoin shirts shipped just in time for Dogefans to wear them to the race at Sonoma. After the NASCAR All-Star race, I wrote about how Wise fans made an almost nonexistent presence at the track. There were several reasons for this, one of which is that the few Josh Wise fans who attended the race did not have Dogecrew merchandise to wear to demonstrate their support. Now that fans have official Josh Wise Dogecoin shirts, they can showcase their support for the #98 Josh Wise Dogecar much more effectively.
