A couple of high-profile coding competitions are happening in March. The winners will gain substantial Bitcoin prizes and community recognition for advancing the state of cryptocurrency.

One is open to anyone online, the other will require your team’s presence in Texas.

Coinbase

Coinbase are hosting a software competition, only they call it a hackathon because we’re all cool cybercats living in the future.

They’ll give the best Bitcoin-related app sent in by March 16th of this year a very generous $10,000.

The two next-best apps will be awarded prizes of $5000 and $3000. And yes, you’ll be rewarded in Bitcoin.

The Coinbase office.

Coinbase will be judging according to the following criteria:

1) Creativity

Take it beyond a simple API integration. Imagine the perfect use case for bitcoin and build an app that does just that.

2) Usability

We’re looking for apps that are both useful and easy to use, whether via browser, mobile, or tablet.

3) Execution

The devil is in the details, as they say.

If you’ve had a great idea for Bitcoin rattling around in your head, here’s the perfect incentive to make it happen. You’ll need to be over 18 and signed on with Coinbase. Get cracking, further info here!

Texas Bitcoin Conference

The upcoming Texas Bitcoin Conference, which will run over the 5th and 6th of March this year, is offering a cool million dollars worth of total prizes to teams competing in their hackathon. These prizes are sponsored in part by the Mastercoin Foundation, Open-Transactions / Monetas, Ethereum, BitAngels and others.

Obviously you’ll need to be in Texas along with your team to win this one. The competition will take place over a 30 hour crunch session, check out further details and register on this page.

It seems the Texas Bitcoin Conference is seeking further sponsors. That looks like a great competition for companies to get behind, with some big names in the “next jump forward” category already associated.
