The Army Corps of Engineers has been authorized to build nearly 60 miles of 18-foot fencing in El Paso, Texas, and Yuma, Arizona as part of ongoing work on Trump’s U.S.-Mexico border wall. Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan says that the primary focus will be shielding “drug-smuggling” corridors.
The Pentagon has also announced that it will be diverting up to $1 billion towards support for the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Patrol. Money will also go towards constructing roads and installing lights.
It appears everything is going exactly as Trump planned. The House of Representatives initially tried to halt Trump’s national emergency that would divert funds towards building the border wall. When the President vetoed their attempt, the House failed to garner the necessary two-thirds majority that would have overturned it.
Despite some Republican support, the House only voted 248-181 in favor of fighting the President’s actions. The Senate will not vote on an override.
So, why do the Democrats keep losing? It seems that for every fight they put up, they come back more bruised and battered.
There are a few reasons for this. For one thing, they appear incapable of taking responsibility for themselves. They’re always looking to blame others for their mistakes and divert negative attention away from their own actions.
An example involves the recent Mueller report. Trump has been exonerated, and the rumors surrounding Russian collusion have seemingly been proven false by the man Democrats put in charge of uncovering the truth. Is that enough for them to throw in the towel and admit they were wrong?
No. Now, party members including Representative Adam Schiff, 2020 presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are suggesting that the report was either flawed or limited in some way, and that damaging evidence against the President remains intact. The fight continues for them, but with the truth revealed, they’re not likely to get far.
It doesn’t stop there. Democrats don’t understand the things that the standard public wants most, a major example being the border wall. New data suggests that Americans favor the idea of a strong border wall more than the mainstream media suggests, but Democrats have consistently fought Trump’s construction attempts. They don’t have the guts to fully come out and say, “Yes! We love illegal immigration! It gets us more votes.” Instead, they show it in blatant fashion.
Some are now acknowledging the circumstances of their dying party. Democratic Representative of Washington Pramila Jayapal has commented:
I think voters still don’t totally trust Democrats. I think they don’t know necessarily what Democrats stand for and how they differentiate from Republicans.
