Ellen DeGeneres is at the epicenter of one hell of a PR storm. The star has faced allegations of bad behavior for years, but things have rapidly gone from zero to sixty in recent days.
Up until now, these tales of shady meanness have seemed largely unfounded, with many chalking it down to jealousy and tabloid gossip. But when Kevin T. Porter tweeted out asking people to share their stories about Ellen’s dark side, the response was out of this world.
Suddenly, stories about her terrible treatment of staff and her refusal to talk to guests off-camera were running rampant. Forget about the global pandemic, there was a new virus in town. Ellen DeGeneres.
If you read my recent article about Ellen’s appalling track record, then you’ll know that DeGeneres is truly the Queen of Mean. While one or two accounts can be brushed off as hearsay, there’s a solid background here that can’t be denied.
People are finally starting to wake up and smell the coffee. Ellen isn’t who she claims to be. While the multi-millionaire personality has always stayed silent on the subject, the cracks are beginning to show. According to a report by US Weekly , Ellen is struggling with the accusations being thrown her way.
A source told the magazine that Ellen thought this would all blow over. It didn’t.
Ellen is at the end of her rope. She thought this was all just sour grapes from a few haters. But it’s not a passing thing – the hits just keep on coming.
So, what’s gone wrong? Is it really all just conjecture that can’t be proved?
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the entertainment industry after reporting on this sector for so long, it’s that there’s often no smoke without fire.
While the odd story or rumor that comes across my desk may be baseless, movements like this can’t be ignored.
Each story is eerily similar, and more importantly, it doesn’t just come from disgruntled fans or former staffers.
Actual guests that have appeared on the show have confirmed it’s no picnic. Nikki de Jager might be the most recent star to spill the tea about her godawful experience on the show , but she isn’t the first.
A few years ago, Bachelor contestant Corrine Olympios stopped by for a chat with Ellen on the show . Spoiler alert: it wasn’t nice. Olympios told all on The Morning Breath podcast in 2017.
I’ve kept this in for so long. But, to be honest, Ellen just made me feel a little uncomfortable… Everybody got nervous when we bumped into each other (backstage) and you could tell they were like, ‘Oh, sh*t.’
Not only that, but some very familiar keywords were thrown up when describing the host: cold and aggressive.
The biggest question isn’t, “Is this all true?” It’s “Did Ellen really think she could get away with it forever and not have to deal with the consequences?”
Why is Ellen so surprised that this is all coming to light? Well, it’s simple. She’s built such an empire that she feels untouchable, regardless of how she treats people.
If Hollywood scandals have taught us anything in recent years, it’s that the wall of silence needs to brought down with a sledgehammer. Abuse is abuse.
Ellen might be a good person at heart. But I do believe that she’s let her ego rule her world, and that sets a dangerous precedent.
No one, regardless of how much money they have in the bank, should be cultivating an environment of fear in the workplace. It’s wrong beyond measure.
I’m not surprised that Ellen is feeling the burn. It’s never nice when someone holds up a mirror and you realize how ugly you’ve become. It’s even worse when the entire world has front row seats to your downfall.
