Draper University recently announced a new online Bitcoin course in partnership with ZapChain. Based in Silicon Valley, Draper University has been accepting Bitcoin for well over a year and has a long history of leading the cutting edge of curriculum design with new and innovative classes. ZapChain is a “growing network of Bitcoin professionals.” Adam Draper, the founder of Boost, said:

The largest problem in the Bitcoin adoption world right now is education and this is the best Bitcoin education course online. It [Bitcoin] answers all the questions by giving access to the experts in the Bitcoin space, no one else has done this in a quality way.

Elsewhere in America, established four-year universities, such as NYU or Duke University, are also offering Bitcoin courses. In those instances, the classes are only offered to registered students at the specific university; furthermore, there are often prerequisites that further limit the reach of said classes.

Bitcoin Course or Bitcoin Certification

In contrast, some organizations have sprung up recently to offer “certification” in Bitcoin, Digital Currency, cryptocurrency, coins, etc. It should be said that certificates and degrees will likely serve different purposes in the Bitcoin world, as they do in the real world. It is perfectly reasonable for Bitcoin startups to expect supposed Bitcoin “experts” to have some proof of their expertise. As the pool of Bitcoin-savvy candidates rise, the effect of individual name recognition falls while the brand recognition of educational institutions or certificate granting organizations rises. Even though there is no trusted accreditation organization that covers the Bitcoin world, the Bitcoin community is really coming together to support the Bitcoin certifications with established expert vetting.

Bitcoin startups might want their lawyers or hardware specialists to carry some sort of Bitcoin certification to prove their expertise; however, it would be unreasonable to expect established industry specialists to go back to school for a Master’s degree just to enter the Bitcoin space. A free online Bitcoin course that is available to users around the world was first pioneered by the University of Nicosia, which offered an Introduction to Digital Currency class which attracted hundreds of participants.
