LOS ANGELES, CA: January 20th, 2017 — The Dogecoin Community has extended its initial “Shibes For Socks” project, continuing its partnership with the Love My Neighbor Foundation, a Los Angeles based charity organization that aims to assist the homeless with food, friendship, and other basic human necessities.
The “Dogecoin Socks For The Homeless” Project, due to demand from within the Dogecoin Community, has been extended in order to provide pairs of new socks to the homeless on a continual basis, and spread the message that socks are an under-donated necessity for the homeless. The next delivery date will be in February 2017.

Originally envisioned as a “one-and-done” effort to test the Dogecoin community’s homemade charity and commerce platform, dogecoinmultisig.org, hundreds of pairs of new socks were delivered to the homeless on December 8th, 2016, and again on January 12th, 2017.
Co-Sponsorship Program Initiated
The Dogecoin community has partnered up with The Bitcoin Store (store.bitcoin.com), an online retailer offering a continually updated assortment of quality cryptocurrency-related clothing and merchandise. The Bitcoin Store is the first sponsor of a new program in the Dogecoin community called the ‘co-sponsor-of-the-month’ program. This co-sponsorship program will assist the community in fulfilling the monthly deliverables of socks to provide to the homeless.
Said Stephen Macaskill, founder of The Bitcoin Store: “When you observe the cryptocurrency community you quickly realize that it is not all about money or currency. The community strives at making the world a better place for everyone. The Dogecoin community in particular goes above and beyond when it comes to charity and community funded projects. We’re excited to have this opportunity to join with the Dogecoin community and help those in need.”
Crowdfunding for Charity
The community at r/dogecoin feels that multisignatures, which allow for multi-person, or escrow-like, financial handling of the cryptocurrency Dogecoin, provide an extra layer of security for charity efforts that would not otherwise be possible if a single person were left in charge of holding the funds.
“The community has a long history of crowdfunded projects, and we’ve had some issues with how those funds get handled before,” said u/peoplma, a community member. “Multisig has the ability to say, ‘these four people control this money, and three out of the four of them must agree how it is spent in order to spend it’. So in a crowdfunding context, people who donate can be more confident that their money won’t be used improperly.”
Added u/phupas, another community member: “The strength of the dogecoin community isn’t in numbers like bitcoin, but it’s the generosity of the members. While dogecoin isn’t as large as other alt coins, we take pride in helping people in need.”
The community has built the tool it is using for multi-person transactions, and is continuing to improve it, adding functionality and translating the tool’s instructions into multiple languages. The #DogecoinSocksForTheHomeless primary team members, consisting of community members u/1waterhole, u/MrDogeMeister, and u/tomcarbon, are utilizing the “Tripleshibe” multisignature product from the tool.
Of the community’s dogecoinmultsig.org project, u/tomcarbon in a statement said, “We hope to show that this technology can be used to make good things happen. And we’re proud to show everyone how Dogecoin can help people, by combining community charitable support with the will to make the world we share a better place. Investor interest is growing the ability of our community to help others. And now we are prepared to start expanding horizontally, multiplying our number of 3 and 4 person teams, utilizing the brand and product of our own design, that can be used freely by anyone.”

About Dogecoin and the Dogecoin Community
Dogecoin, a playful offshoot of the original Bitcoin cryptocurrency, was created in December 2013 as a joke, but quickly gained a following. The “Dogecoin Community” (www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin), known for charitible crowdfunding and playful demeanor, wants to remind the public that Dogecoin has made meaningful technological gains in the areas of crowdfunding and charitable giving and is standing on its own four feet as a serious cryptocurrency contender. It also wants the public to know that not enough socks are donated to homeless people, and that socks provide dignity, warmth, and protection from disease.
