The Dogecoin community is at it again. First they raised over $30,000 in Dogecoin to send the Jamaican bobsled team to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Now, the folks at r/Dogecoin and the Dogecoin Foundation have raised more than $7000 in DOGE to send Indian luge contender Shiva Keshavan to Sochi. The goal of 4 million DOGE was surprisingly reached in just three hours, with hundreds of donors and one anonymous 3 million DOGE donation.
Shiva Keshavan has no personal coach and has to rely almost entirely on private donations. Keshavan’s sled, pictured below, was built in his garage entirely by himself.
Furthermore, the Indian Winter Olympics team was suspended last year by the International Olympic Committee for “violations of its charter, including electing leaders with pending criminal chargers.” The disgraced team cannot carry the Indian flag and India’s national anthem won’t be played during medal ceremonies.
All this would have made it incredibly difficult to Keshavan to compete this year. Fortunately for him, the ever-good-natured Reddit Dogecoin community decided to help make Keshavan’s dreams come true. Who says money can’t buy happiness?
Furthermore, Ben Ɖoernberg from the Dogecoin Foundation is trying to fund two other Indian athletes who must fend for themselves – Himanshu Thakur and Nadeem Iqbal.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Dogecoin community is one of the nicest and friendliest communities on the Internet. No other cryptocoin community has seen so much generosity and good will.
Unlike quite a lot of people in the world of cryptocurrency, the Dogecoin community realises that becoming rich shouldn’t be one’s primary goal. Helping people out and generally being a “good shibe” comes first.
