Garrett Cassidy, the FinTech leader and former Bank of Ireland director is to join Circle, it has been announced that he will be heading up their European operations. Circle is one of the most important, developing, companies in the cryptocoin world and the addition of someone of the caliber of Garret Cassidy to their team has to be seen as a recruiting coup. Cassidy was previously employed as Head of Markets, Commercial Lending and Payments Development for Bank of Ireland, he was based in London. In a recent interview with CoinDesk, Circle has also promised that all invited users will have functional accounts by the end of July.
Editor’s Note: Circle has since rescinded that promise.
Circle describes itself as “A consumer finance company focused on transforming the world economy with secure, simple, and less costly technology for storing and using money.”
Circle is based in Boston, and frankly, it would not be inaccurate to state, the exact nature of their business has yet to be declared. They have, however, been putting quite a team of professionals together to get their business, whatever it turns out to be, off the ground. If it sheds any light on the subject… they go on to say:
“Circle is building a suite of consumer products aimed at enabling greater ease-of-use in online and in-person payments, enhanced security and privacy for consumers, and the convenience of free, instant, global digital money transfers. We’re very hard at work, and looking forward to having you try our products soon.
Our platform is built on top of open standards and open protocols, such as Bitcoin. We deeply believe that open source and standards are the foundation of this next phase of the Internet, and we hope to collaborate broadly with the developers and companies around the world that are embracing these new technologies to propel the future.
We come to this project having pioneered and nurtured Internet technologies and services that have transformed software, media, and communications, and have built and helped lead many significant global public companies. We hope to help do the same for Internet-based consumer finance.”
Maria Tucker, released a statement from Circle giving the reasons for seeking out Garrett Cassidy:
“Garrett brings more than twenty years of experience in technology, finance, capital markets, operations and payments. Prior to joining Circle, Garrett held senior positions at Bank of Ireland, Ulster Bank, and Goldman Sachs. Garrett’s wide-ranging expertise in financial technology and payment systems, deep understanding of regulatory requirements, and experience scaling operations to support consumer financial products all provide Circle with a tremendous anchor as we build our organisation in Europe. We’re extremely happy to have him on board.”
Previously, Garrett Cassidy had also worked with Fintech and in this role has acquired extensive experience in addressing business and technology challenges across Africa. He is clearly a high achieving individual with a long history of providing solutions across the financial and banking sectors and his experience with Bank of Ireland, as well as that gained with Goldman Sachs, will serve Circle well. Circle has previously added to its corporate expertise by the recruitment of Michele Burns (board member of Goldman Sachs and Cisco) to their board of directors. The company also recruited Michael Barrett this year, formerly the vice president of security at American Express and Chief Information Security Officer at PayPal.
Things are definitely on the up at Circle and CryptoCoinsNews will keep you appraised of all developments.
