  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare is holding a double XP weekend event.
  • This event is supposedly being faked, according to upset fans on Reddit.
  • If these rumors are correct, then it’s almost certainly a money-grubbing tactic form Activision.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare is celebrating by holding a double XP weekend . Over Saturday and Sunday, you’ll earn twice the XP compared you’d typically make for playing the game.

Instead, gamers are noticing something strange about this supposed ‘double XP’ weekend.

According to many, the game isn’t really giving out any extra XP . Some blame Activision for cutting the in-game XP in half just before it was doubled.

Either way, this event isn’t making all that many people particularly happy.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Was Already a Grind-Fest

If this news about a ‘fake’ double XP weekend is accurate, then it makes sense. Call of Duty Modern Warfare is already a pretty grind-heavy game. Just like the rest of the series.

If you play online, you need to level up your character and weapons to make them the best they can be. That means playing in games with less-than-optimal equipment to increase the quality of your gear.

Grinding is so integral to Call of Duty Modern Warfare that they even made a Battle Pass bundle that spits out tier skipping (basically free XP) to incentivize buying it.

The Clear Incentive for Activision

Activision loves microtransactions. They like to fit them into every game they can, especially if it happens just after the games have all been reviewed and released. Call of Duty Modern Warfare is no exception .

If they’re allegedly reducing XP before an event, there’s a reason for it. You can spend real money on skipping tiers (levels) in Modern Warfare’s battle pass system. If it’s harder to gain those tiers naturally, then maybe you’ll be tempted into spending some of your hard-earned cash on it instead.

The bottom line is that Activision seems like they’re engaging in the same anti-consumer practices for which they’re already famous . So far, all we have to go on are the words of those screaming about the issue on Twitter and Reddit.

Let’s just say that no one would find it surprising if this turned out to be true.
