It’s official. Borderlands Legendary Collection is coming to Nintendo Switch. Soon you’ll be able to play through the first three games in the classic looter-shooter series. This is spectacular news for fans of the series, but if you order a physical copy, you’re in for a nasty shock.
Your cartridge will only include the first game, and even that requires a 6GB download. Then it’s another 35GB download to play the rest of the titles.

There’s a reason Nintendo is still producing physical Switch games. Because people are buying them.
And one reason they’re buying them is to avoid purchasing huge SD cards to expand the console’s internal storage.
Some unlucky gamer is going to buy the Borderlands Legendary Collection and wind up unable to play the thing without making another trip to the store.
To play everything “included” on the cartridge, you’ll need to purchase a 64GB micro SD card. At that point, you might as well buy the game digitally for all the good the physical copy is doing for you.
It’s inexplicable that in a world were 1TB micro SD cards exist, 2K couldn’t fit every Borderlands game onto a Switch cartridge.
Presumably, they wanted to save themselves some money. But frankly, Switch cartridges are expensive enough already without lazy publishers forcing you to pay for extra storage.
At the very least, Nintendo should slap a fat warning on the Borderlands Legendary Collection box. It would truly suck to buy a game and then find out your console can’t play it.
Unfortunately, this trend shows no signs of letting up anytime soon.
