First Annual Blockchain Awards
“The Foundation works hard to recognize and advocate for innovation and ingenuity across the Bitcoin community,” said Jon Matonis, Executive Director of the Bitcoin Foundation. “These awards are a unique opportunity to showcase these accomplishments and celebrate an extraordinary year for Bitcoin.”
Nominations have just opened, and anybody in the world can nominate an individual or a company to receive the world’s first Blockchain Award in one of ten important categories. By May 7th, the top 3 nominated individuals or companies for each category will be listed on the Bitcoin2014 convention website. Then, voting on the top three finalists will run presumably until the start of the event. The Blockchain Award winners from each category will receive a donation of 1 BTC. Additionally, the award will be permanently written into the blockchain as proof of ownership, in what will undoubtedly be remembered as a historic event.

I, for one, am incredibly interested to see what a Blockchain Award’s physical manifestation will be.
The Blockchain Awards will be presented at the Bitcoin 2014 conference which will occur in Amsterdam between May 15th through May 17th. The winners of the Blockchain Awards will be announcedBitcoin 2014 is building off the phenomenal success of Bitcoin 2013, and bringing the annual international forum to an even more international location. Recent Bitcoin convert and CEO of Overstock.com Dr. Patrick M. Byrne will be the keynote speaker at the event. The three day event will also feature prominent Bitcoin entrepreneurs and visionaries from around the world. Jeremy Allaire of Circle, Bobby Lee of BTC China, Gavin Andresen of the Bitcoin Foundation, Jeff Garzik of bitpay, the list goes on and on.
