Christina Anstead is getting a divorce, and no one is shocked.
The HGTV television personality has taken to her Instagram to announce that she and her husband of fewer than two years, Ant Anstead, are ending their marriage.
But is anyone really surprised?
As “Flip or Flop” became one of the most popular shows on HGTV, interest in Christina Anstead (then known as Christina El Moussa) and her then-husband, Tarek, went through the roof. The couple seemed to have it all: a happy marriage that mixed both business and pleasure, beautiful children, and a successful television show.
Except that wasn’t enough for Anstead. As her popularity began to rise, her desire for a higher-profile career also began to rise in kind — to the point that she was angling for a role on “The Real Housewives of Orange County.”
As In Touch Weekly reported at the time :
Christina El Moussa is joining The Real Housewives of Orange County for Season 13. Bravo would like to offer the HGTV personality, 33 — who lives in the O.C. — a contract to appear on RHOC after season 12 of the hit reality series wraps up.
The outlet went on to say that according to a “source,” the “blonde beauty” was a “perfect fit” for the show. Interestingly, no other outlet reported on this alleged “casting,” and when the new season of the show was announced, Christina Anstead was nowhere to be found on the cast list.
Reportedly, too, the real reason for her split from Tarek El Moussa is because El Moussa was unwilling to pander to the “reality TV” crowd, preferring instead to enjoy the self-contained success of “Flip or Flop” and the opportunities it brought him.
Right after she filed for divorce from Tarek El Moussa, Christina Anstead was seen on the arm of several men — none of which were suitable for her desired high profile. Her first relationship was with Gary Anderson, which caused a blowback from her HGTV fan base because she met him while still married to Tarek.
She also had a brief fling with a hockey player named Nate Thompson and another brief fling with a businessman named Doug Spedding — the latter of whom publicly humiliated her by being seen out and about with an ex-girlfriend while they were supposed to be together.
It wasn’t until she got with British personality Ant Anstead that she got the desired high profile she was striving for. They even got their own wedding special on HGTV, and suddenly her name rang bells across the pond — something she wasn’t able to do when she was married to Tarek El Moussa.
Unfortunately for Christina Anstead, she should have done more research into who she was marrying, because she would have realized that not all fame is good fame.
In an exclusive interview, Ant Anstead’s ex-girlfriend revealed that he had a “fling” with her while he was still married to his now-ex-wife, Louise. She also revealed that Christina Anstead was “not his type” because he doesn’t like “reality TV people.” And his fakery is pretty evident in the video below, where he claims he tells his “wifey” that they celebrate their anniversary “every day.” Someone stop the bleeding, please.

Nevertheless, the pair still got married…after which he immediately got not one, but two shows on American television (“Barrett-Jackson Live Auto Auction” on the Discovery Channel and “Ant Anstead Master Mechanic” on Motor Trend Channel), putting his face before a whole different audience.
So, of course, it makes sense that Ant and Christina Anstead made the “difficult decision to separate.” They both got what they wanted out of the relationship — and it had nothing to do with love in either case.
