As one of the most recognizable figures on the internet and a man two years shy of 30, you’d expect Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins to be capable of piecing together a humble sandwich.
Yet, that doesn’t seem to be the case as Ninja appeared on YouTube cooking show Back-to-Back Chef earlier this week to showcase his flagrant culinary ineptitude.
The show on YouTube channel Bon Appétit hosted by chef Carla Lalli Music tasks celebrities with cooking random dishes. The premise is that the chef and her guest are positioned back to back on opposing cooking stations, and Music can only deliver verbal instructions.
For this episode of the show, Ninja had the mammoth task of cooking a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. Things get to off to a good start as Ninja confidently pans two strips of bacon.
But, his progress is soon stonewalled by a loaf of bread that proves a real challenge for the Fortnite streamer despite chef Music’s best efforts to guide him. Ninja fumbles with the bread, turning it over in the hope of revealing its mysteries. The chef’s bemused looks are pure gold.
He finally commits. Rather than slicing the bread vertically into slices as pretty much anyone else with a rudimentary notion of cooking would, Ninja hacks away at the loaf horizontally.
The sandwich starts to take shape as Ninja cracks a few eggs and keeps on eye on his sizzling bacon without too much trouble. Then comes slicing an avocado. By his own admission, the Mixer streamer has never cut an avocado in his life.
Once again, Music provides excellent instructions, going so far as to warn Ninja about the pit at the center of the fruit. Regardless, he butchers it, slicing right through the pit and leaving two unequally sized halves.
To be fair to Ninja, the pressure of the situation clearly got the best of him despite three years working for a noodle company cooking up sate dishes.
The rest of the show sails past without too many more fumbles and while Ninja’s sandwich doesn’t look all that bad, it pales in comparison to chef Music’s final product.
While he may draw in tens of thousands of viewers daily and host New Year Eve’s shows in Time Square without batting an eyelid, his cooking skills have clearly taken ahit.
