We are less than two months away from the first implementation of a user-friendly distributed exchange. The Mastercoin Foundation announced a launch date of March 15 for their distributed exchange , which means Mastercoin enthusiasts will get a chance to test out the kind of decentralized exchange that bitcoiners have been talking about for years. Although bitcoins and mastercoins will be the only currencies available for trade at launch, this is definitely a huge moment for the cryptocurrency community as a whole. Mastercoin is also lacking a user-friendly GUI wallet at this point, so it will be awesome to get both the GUI wallet and the distributed exchange at around the same time.
GUI Wallets on the Way
Many people who are interested in the idea of owning mastercoins are usually turned off by the fact that the process of buying mastercoins is a bit complicated right now. A recently released video shows that there has been progress when it comes to the Masterchest Wallet, and this is exactly what people have been waiting for over the past few months. You can still use a regular Bitcoin wallet to hold your mastercoins right now, but it will be nice to finally see your Bitcoin and Mastercoin balances in the same place.
Distributed Exchanges Everywhere
As of right now, it seems that the plan is to launch two different implementations of the Mastercoin distributed exchange on the 15th of March. This will be the first user-friendly distributed exchange to be released upon the public, which means bitcoiners will get their first taste of trading different cryptocurrencies without the use of a centralized third-party. There are many other projects currently working on the distributed exchange concept, so it will be interesting to see what being first to market can do for Mastercoin as a brand.
